Every time he did a trick, the parrot would say, "It's in his pocket," or, "Watch his left hand," or, "It's under his coat." The magician was fast being driven mad by this when the ship struck a rock and rapidly sank. The magician was thrown clear, landed in the sea and swam for a nearby island. When he arrived, exhausted, he saw the parrot sitting on a rock, looking very disconsolate. The parrot said nothing for hours. Finally, it squawked, "OK, wise guy, I give up. What did you do with the boat?"
